A Taste of Fall
I finally got the opportunity to connect with some fall migrants during a recent visit to Illinois on September 16-19. The local birding hotspot Helmick Nature Preserve along the Old Plank Trail in southern Cook County delivered once again, and produced a great variety of migrant songbirds.
Here are some photographic highlights:
American Redstart
Bay-breasted Warbler (adult female winter)
Bay-breasted Warbler (hatch-year female)
Black-throated Blue Warbler (female)
Black-throated Blue Warbler (male)
Black-throated Green Warbler (male)
Blue Jay
Common Yellowthroat (male)
Gray Catbird
Magnolia Warbler (male winter)
Northern Parula (female)
Philadelphia Vireo
Philadelphia Vireo
Red-breasted Nuthatch (male)
Red-eyed Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Swainson’s Thrush
Wilson’s Warbler (male)
